Topre Realforce 104UB Review | Zero Finger Fatigue

Lets take a look at a Japanese Keyboard this time. A 104 keys US-layout keyboard design for typist in mind. It uses electrostatic capacitive switches, Topre to be exact which is a mix between mechanical switches and rubber dome switches.

A thick 1.5 meter long cable sadly not detachable but does offer 2 way cable management. The leg stand that rises the keyboard roughly 2cm high. Is build like a tank, no flexing you can murder a tiger with it thus weighing 1.4kg. All the keycaps are using PBT except for the space bar which is ABS.

This keyboard is unique in the sense that not only it has Topre premium switches but also variable stiffness or different actuation force among the switches. 3 different switches to be exact, ranging to soft tactile to weighted bump; 30gram, 45grams and 55 grams . The lighter switch is place where the typist may use certain alphabets more frequent as you can see from the diagram below, only the escape key is the 55grams. I have use this for days now and I do feel the switches is more like Cherry MX Red, being soft tactile and linear but much easier to actuate it.

We have created few review notes and we don’t feel any finger fatigue, typing on it feel satisfying and doesn’t make much sound, the rubber dome does give a mechanical feel. Best part is you don’t need to press hard on the keys and after a while I manage to type faster on this keyboard than the other gaming keyboards likely due to the Topre switches design. Everytime I press a key I know it will be registered whereas on a typical cherry MX keyboard, I don’t have to feel confident until the switches give a return feedback to know the key is register.

So the next question is, can in running for games. Yes better than expected I have to remind you this is a typist keyboard on in anyway a gaming keyboard. Games like Overwatch requires the gamer to place their finger on the WASD keys and as a person who loves moving sideways left and right a lot to dodge incoming fire, the experience is wonderful reason is you don’t require much force to press that keys. Not sure how to explain this but is like floating on water. This is important for me as I can play Overwatch for 4-6 hours straight. Its enjoyable and comfortable to use for long session, this is where Topre makes their mark in the gaming scene.
