ROG GX700 is the world’s first liquid-cooled gaming laptop. It is designed to give you a gaming laptop with the overclocking potential to go toe-to-toe with extreme gaming desktops. GX700 features, an overclockable Intel Mobile K-SKU processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 graphics, and DDR4 RAM to give you desktop-like power at home, and ultra-performance on-the-go. Reddot Award 2016 Winner as well. Check our video out.
The GX700 has a 17inch 1080p IPS screen with G-Sync support and it features an anti-glare screen so you can view your screen well in any lighting situation. It’s important to have an anti-glare screen so you won’t get distract by lights appearing on the surface of the screen (common with glossy screen) because humans are like cats and laser pointers.
Looking at the hardware powering the puppy here is the Intel Skylake Core i7 6820HK, 2.7Ghz that can be turbo up to 3.6Ghz. Best part is this Skylake chip can be overclock. Its using a desktop class GTX 980 GPU (yes desktop, not 980M) with 8GB GDDR5 RAM. Supports G-sync and is Geforce GTX VR Ready. It can support up to 64GB DDR4 RAM and up to 4 PCI-e SSD. Both CPU and GPU can be overclock in the ROG Gaming Center to maximise the performance of the system.
PCI-e SSD are much faster than conventional SSD since they bypass SATA connection (one bottleneck avoided) and using PCI-e connection direct to the processor. The NVMe PCI-e SSD in the GX700 can hit read and write speed above 2400MB/s.
With its special liquid cooling system dock “The Hydro Overclocking System” (inspired by Gundam franchise maybe????), which ASUS says can reduce CPU and GPU temperatures by 31% and 33% respectively. The entire system is to huge and heavy to carry around as the GX700 without the dock weighs 3.6kg, while the dock weighs 4.8kg. But ASUS got your back by including a travel baggage that you can storage the entire system and drag it anywhere you go.
The GX700 has a full size chiclet keyboard with numeric pad. Travel distance is similar to conventional keyboard so you wont face any mis-clicks. The keys has just the right amount of pressure need to actuate, a gaming grade. The best part is the keyboard has an anti-ghosting feature with 30-key rollover.
When it come to audio department. For the audio in an out jacks, its using ESS Sabre headphone DAC and AMP giving you better audio clarity and less distortion. Think of it as having a dedicated sound card in your laptop.
On the right: Ethernet Port, Type-C 3.1 Port, Thunderbolt 3 Port, Mini Display Port, 1 HMDI Port, 3.0 Type-A Port.
One the left: SD card reader, Audio jacks and 2x 3.0 Type-A Ports.
