Aim towards photographers, graphic designers and who needs the wide colour gamut space or highly calibrated right from the factory to meet their needs. BenQ even reinforce the assurance by providing the user a calibration report from their factory.
Ergonomics wise, it can tilt 23.5 degrees total, swivel 70 degrees total, rotate 90 degrees total and height adjustment up to 13cm. Weighs 9.17Kg with the shades on, can be carried around since it has a dedicated handle to hold. 2cm side bezel (left, top, right) and 2.6cm on the bottom. VESA compatible 100mm, YES BABY!
I/O ports. On bottom: 1x DVI-DL , 1x HDMI 1.4, 1x DP 1.2, Headphone Jacks , USB 3.0 Uplink and Mini USB port for the OSB remote. On the side: 2x USB3.0 and SD card reader.
Moving on the key features it has a 99% Adobe RGB Coverage which has a greater range of blue and green, this would be great of landscape or natural outdoor portrait shooter. Just switch to Adobe RGB color space in your camera and you’re good to go. The PPI is low and not Retina grade but is still sharp for me at 109 PPI. The IPS screen is 27 inches, 16:9 ratio with a resolution of 2560×1440 resolution. The screen has a matte treatment so you won’t face any glare and light rays. Its a 10-bit display panel.
BenQ included the Palette Master Element Calibration Software, where you can use a hardware calibrator to calibrate your monitor from time to time to ensure optimal experience. X-Rite and Datacolor Spyder are supported hardware.
As a photographer who edits in full screen, I hate it when my room light or sunlight hit the edge of the screen, making me to burn or dodge wrongly in post-production and when you print your images you will head back to re-edit picture. What a bummer. The Shading Hood which is detachable btw, helps to block stray light from hitting onto the monitor. The shade inner part is made from felt material, that is the closest material to Vantablack at the moment, it has to prevent reflection thanks to the material properties that absorb light.
Since you would likely spend long hours in front of the monitor you can be assure that this is also an eye care product with BenQ ZeroFlicker Technology and you can enable Low Blue Light Mode, my favorite setting is 30% from normal web browsing.
Check the review video out where I explain in greater detail about editing high resolution images and underwater photography.
Calvin Prefered Setting for Film Look edits
– 50% Contrast
To sum it up, it has accurate colours, built in SD card reader, ergonomic adjustments . No it’s not for gamers, no Freesync G-sync or high refresh rate. I played 4 straight hours on Overwatch and did few recordings, can say is decent for a simple gamer like me. If you want gaming monitor with those fancy spec do check out their Zowie line up that offer higher refresh rates.
